Independence of axioms for fourgonal families

We show, by means of (counter)examples, that the axioms for fourgonal families (as used to construct elation generalized quadrangles) are independent. Received 22 September 2000.     

Statistical Prediction under an Order Restriction

In this paper, a statistical prediction problem under ordered location and scale parameters are considered. Double-shrinkage predictors are given which use all the available data and improve on single-shrinkage predictors, and hence the best equivariant predictors.     

The spectrum of α‐resolvable designs with block size four

Abstact: An α‐resolvable BIBD is a BIBD with the property that the blocks can be partitioned into disjoint classes such that every class contains each point of the design exactly α times. In this paper, we show that the necessary conditions for the existence of α‐resolvable designs with block size four are sufficient, with the exception of (α, ν, λ) = (2, 10, 2). © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Product and moment formulas for iterated stochastic integrals (associated with Lévy processes)

In this paper, we obtain explicit product and moment formulas for products of iterated integrals generated by families of square integrable martingales associated with an arbitrary Lévy process. We propose a new approach applying the theory of compensated-covariation stable families of martingales. Our main tool is a representation formula for products of elements of a compensated-covariation stable family, which enables us to consider Lévy processes, with both jumps and Gaussian part.     

Factorization theory of root closed monoids of small rank

In this note, we investigate ideal and factorization-theoretic properties of some root closed cancellative commutative monoids of rank at most two.     

Canard solutions at non-generic turning points

This paper deals with singular perturbation problems for vector fields on -dimensional manifolds. ``Canard solutions' are solutions that, starting near an attracting normally hyperbolic branch of the singular curve, cross a ``turning point' and follow for a while a normally repelling branch of the singular curve. Following the geometric ideas developed by Dumortier and Roussarie in 1996 for the study of canard solutions near a generic turning point, we study canard solutions near non-generic turning points. Characterization of manifolds of canard solutions is given in terms of boundary conditions, their regularity properties are studied and the relation is described with the more traditional asymptotic approach. It reveals that interesting information on canard solutions can be obtained even in cases where an asymptotic approach fails to work. Since the manifolds of canard solutions occur as intersection of center manifolds defined along respectively the attracting and the repelling branch of the singular curve, we also study their contact and its relation to the ``control curve'.

     

Some remarks on James-Schreier spaces

The James-Schreier spaces Vp, where 1?p<∞, were recently introduced by Bird and Laustsen (in press) [5] as an amalgamation of James' quasi-reflexive Banach space on the one hand and Schreier's Banach space giving a counterexample to the Banach-Saks property on the other. The purpose of this note is to answer some questions left open in Bird and Laustsen (in press) [5]. Specifically, we prove that (i) the standard Schauder basis for the first James-Schreier space V₁ is shrinking, and (ii) any two Schreier or James-Schreier spaces with distinct indices are non-isomorphic. The former of these results implies that V₁ does not have Pe?czyński's property (u) and hence does not embed in any Banach space with an unconditional Schauder basis.

利用Zalcman关于正规族的方法,研究了两类复高阶微分方程组的亚纯解的增长级问题;同时,利用Nevanlinna值分布理论,讨论了两类复微分-差分方程的超越整函数解的增长级.所得结论推广和改进了一些文献的结果,并举例说明本文的结论精确.     

分担函数集的正规定则

本文将亚纯函数正规性与分担函数集相结合,探讨了亚纯函数族F正规与F中任意两个函数f与g分担函数的个数,f与其导数f'分担函数的个数及函数f的重值的个数三者之间的关系,给出了一个综合判定亚纯函数族正规的充分条件.
